Joi Mebane Tell You How to Be Consistent with Your Hair Business

The Look Founder: Joi Mebane Tell You How to Be Consistent with Your Hair Business

Joi Mebane is a legend in the beauty and hair industry with a trademark of excelling eyebrows.

Joi has been in the industry for 21 years with her magnificent brand The Look.

Getting off the nursery school to find herself in the beauty business has been a rollercoaster for her.

It wasn’t a smooth sail as people may think maybe a few eyebrows were destroyed on the way.

Every business will have its rough batch.

Businesses that survive to reach 6 and 8 figures share one quality: consistency.

The consistency to work and maintain for a long time no matter the circumstances.

Joi experienced these ups and downs, and she shares her knowledge with The Hair Business Blueprint.

How to Hustle Around Competition?

If you go to the supermarket, you will find 20 brands of each commodity.

The fast-food restaurants right up the road have a few competitors on the other side of the same road.

Amazon sellers are clashing in the listing with a race to the bottom considering their prices.

It never ends.

But they don’t come for you, your visual identity, or your brand.

They come for the experience which is a little bit of each.

For Joi, they literally come for joy.

How she meets their needs and understands them.

How she cares and how they leave her place with unbeaten happiness.

The experience will differentiate you from your competition, it is the intangible value that is consistent across the touchpoints in the customer journey.

Beginning with how you treat them when they make a reservation all the way to the return voucher that you give out for free.

How to Survive Failures?

Failures are going to happen, it’s just how the world works.

Your skin will get thicker as time passes; however, you need to have guts to begin with.

Joi believes in Karma, and how to give the world to be given whenever you need it.

The relationships you bonded with while building the hair business and treating customers right will get back to you eventually.

Seeds take time to grow, and at period you’re not capable of seeing green sprouts out of them, it’s already happening, but not yet seen.

Succeeding is not always visible to the observant’s eye.

The patience to outwait misfortunes without losing the consistency invested in admitting the losses is the perfect way to handle these kinds of situations.

Pledging to Give Back

Private Label pledged $100K to give back to the black entrepreneurs’ community.

We have been able to give hundreds and hundreds of wigs alongside laptops to responsible mothers who need the gadgets to start their businesses.

While you build your business you need to be somehow selfish.

Saying no to people who waste your time and energy.

And be focused on your business, even if you have to compromise some things with your partner.

Bill Gates started his charity work late in his life.

You don’t have to wait to be a billionaire. But you will need to reinvest in your business dramatically for a decent period of time.

Then you should give back in your own way.

In your personal life or as part of your brand mission.

For a good omen or Karma reasons.

The people who made you achieve it, you owe to them to have a better life even with 0.5%. That can be the wisdom you gained or the money you earned.

Hiring the Right People

We hire people to get our time back to manage things better.

Don’t forget you’re a human who can get overwhelmed or frustrated no matter how workaholic you are.

The right staff are going to make your business expandable.

But finding them is a little bit hard.

Joi and I hire virtual assistants through freelance platforms like freelancer.com, Fiverr, and Upwork.

There are many professionals around the world with bold experience that can be like an additional hand and mind for you.

But as you specialize in the hair industry, you will need to give them rounds of orientation.

Like if you hire a copywriter, tell him the tone of voice and the writing style of your brand along with hair terminology.

Share your standard operating procedure with your new employees to tell them how you approach things.

It would be wonderful if you had a handbook to share with them to know their way around.

Taking into consideration that each generation is different from the other.

You can hire Gen-Z employees with different attention spans and priorities.

Meet them halfway through and reach a middle ground to communicate better and know what to expect.

Life-Long Education

Joi mocks me for how I’m always crumbling over my laptop digging on the internet to the bottom researching some topic.

I love learning so as Joi, it is the nature of the hair and beauty industry, you have to know your goods.

What are the developments and there are any medical updates?

You need to know what you have been missing. And what you can learn more about your hair business marketing and website tools.

More business and financial knowledge to be the master you claim to be.

Even to brag about what you know amongst friends.

Whatever your reason, it’s essential to learn and share this knowledge with your staff and your people.

Resources for Learning

Joi recommends a book by Chris Duker called Virtual Freedom which teaches you how to work with virtual staff and save your time while becoming more productive, she depended on it building her The Look by Joi website.

If you’re into hair and wonder how these people are making it out there or how you leave a website to see the same products on Facebook.

All these things seem magical but most of the time they are quite easy to manage.

In the Hair Business Masterclass, we get into details of everything that might cross your mind relating to the hair business.

You can also download the Hair Business Planner to make clear steps of the goal you want to achieve to reach it gradually.

And my book Fearless Beauty explains it all, from the very beginning to the cheat codes of how to do it.

Along with our new Free Course for Dropship Beauty App to dropship hair seamlessly.

But the one thing that is going to change everything for you is consistency, and it’s for free.
